I have the honor to announce that National Geographic will be publishing 5 of my images in their next book. National Geographic Bird Coloration is currently in the works. Birds in Flight Seminar
Birds in Flight Photography Seminar - Maxis Gamez, All Rights Reserved

My recent Birds in Flight Photography Seminar was interrupted by one of the biggest thunderstorms of this hot summer. Several folks did not attend due to flooding and very little visibility. However, some did not cared and managed to show up anyway. We were having such great time that we end up doing a 2hr seminar, that's right TWO hours! Talking about AFFORDABLE!

Thank you all for sending your apologies and support. We can control our exposure but we can't control the weather. My next seminar will be in November at Corkscrew Swamp in Naples, Florida. This time will be all about exposure and how to use your flash. I will post more information about the seminar in my web site very soon.

Hey, maybe we'll end up doing another TWO hours seminar again. Oh well!!

Birds in Flight Seminar TESTIMONIALS:

I would like to let you know how much I appreciated attending the Weedon Island Preserve Seminar, September 12Th in St. Petersburg. Although the severe rainy weather likely kept a number of people from attending The Birds in Flight & Panning Workshop, those who chose not to attend missed a wonderful informative photography program.

As a first-time participant to one of your seminars, I wasn't sure what to expect. It was nice that you started with the basics and continued in a clear, concise way of explaining techniques. Not only was the topic thoroughly covered, but you answered questions during the session and encouraged additional questions at the end. I especially liked the way you answered a question and then return quickly back to where you left off in your lecture.

Your willingness to bring your own camera, lens and accessories and demonstrate how you use them provided a more informative learning style for me. Encouraging us to bring our own equipment gave us a forum to compare some different examples. Beginners or seasoned bird photographers should have come away from this seminar with helpful skills and information. I know I did!

One suggestion for the future would be that everyone leave with something in their hands from the seminar. The CD is a nice review aide and maybe should be considered in the price of the Class.

Hi Maxis,

Thanks again for the seminar. It is great to meet someone who is self taught and can pass along the knowledge that you have gained through your time and effort in an easy to understand manner. The important thing you demonstrate is that your methods work as proven by the gorgeous image gallery that you display.

You present the material in such a way that I believe everyone is comfortable regardless of their skill level and you encourage questions without regards to "watching the clock." I believe that I was in the minority shooting Nikon but your familiarity with their equipment and systems allows me to gain even though you use Canon. I look forward to your next workshop!

Best Regards,
Michael A. Decker

How Important is to Own a Polarizer Filter - Equipment Review

Polirazer Filter - Maxis Gamez, All Right Reserved
How Important is a polarizer Filter. Maxis Gamez, All rights reserved

During my trip to Maine, I came across a pond full of these leaf. I immediately had to investigate and walked around the pond looking for opportunities. The first thing I thought was "I need my 70-200mm lens and polarizer". Notice how the polarizer removed the glare from each leaf.

While composing my images, I was in SHOCK of the polarizer's effect. Notice the difference in these two images. I specifically captured these two images thinking of sharing my experience with you all.

Do your self a favor and purchase a polarizer filter for every lens you own! You won't regret it!

Ft. DeSoto Park is one of the best places to photograph birds in Florida. As the bird migration is taking place, Ft. DeSoto is the place to be. Things are heating up really fast and if you don't act fast, you can miss great opportunities not only landscapes but also migratory birds.

I often hear comments from other photographers that summer is dead in Florida. Well, I've been photographing all summer long and so far, so good. Get off the couch and let's do some shooting!
