Over the last couple of years I've been feeling the need to exercise and continue pushing forward with my photography workshops. There is no doubt in my mind that the lack of exercise can easily punish your body and that's exactly what it was happening to me. My lower back was hurting, I gained weight and so on. After that, I decided to take a break from photography and get on with mountain biking and Kayaking again.

After my last Burrowing Owl workshop last June, my training started. I purchased a high end mountain bike and started riding 3 times per week religiously. At the same time, I set myself a few goals in which I've already completed and successfully achieved the first one. At first tuning the bike for best comfort and performance was difficult, Not to mention learning the art of riding a mountain bike on the trails. After a few months and few heavy crashes, I decided to ride the Santos 50 Miles Epic Ride.

SANTOS - The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Office of Greenways and Trails recently received the designation of "Epic Ride" for its Cross Florida Greenway Santos Trail System from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). One of only three sites designated in 2006, the Santos trails join an elite list of only 40 rides named as "Epic" by IMBA since 1999.

The images above represent my first 50 miles Epic Ride with a small group of dedicated riders. I also created a video if you are interested. The ride took place on September 7th, 2014 in which I rode for a total of 5 hours at an average speed of 10.5 MPH.

My next ride is at the end of October for another 50 miles. I'll post some images and update from the ride as well.

Remember to take care of your body and exercise. Your body and photography will benefit from it!

Because I took a summer break from photography doesn't mean I was disconnected. I followed Photokina closely each day. Below are the highlights of the show!

Nikon announces the new and more affordable D750. What an exciting camera this one is. While many people still waiting for the "D400" Nikon doesn't seem to have any interest in a DX body. Sorry guys!

You can learn everything you need to know about the new D750 HERE

The long wait is over!! The replacement of one of the most anticipated Canon bodies in the last 5 year has finally arrived and boy-oh-boy!! This camera looks fantastic on paper. An amazing new and even more sophisticated 65AF points Auto Focus system (better than the 1D X), a nice and much welcome 10 FPS shutter, DIGIC 6 processor and a new and more noise reduction friendly sensor makes this 7D MKII a winner!

But wait!! It's not over, the body is listed at $1,799!! You can read all about the body HERE

Last year Canon said that they will continue developing DO lenses. Here is one of the first DO lenses since that announcement. Check out the new Canon 400mm f/4, IS II DO lens. Learn more about the lens HERE

Canon also announced the new 1" 20.2-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and the powerful DIGIC 6 image processor the PowerShot G7 X Digital Camera. This little camera is compact but with a nice punch!

Learn all about the camera HERE. This camera really impressed me.

Bird Photography Workshops

2014 has come and gone! It's time to prepare ourselves for another successful year. In 2015 I will be leading less workshops and allow more time to my health and fitness. However, a few more workshops will be announced as we get closer to 2015.

I hope you can join me.

I'm going to finalize this newsletter with my 5D MKIII AF settings that I shared back in January. I continue getting questions about my AF settings for the 5D MKIII. Hope you find it useful.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you need help.

Until next time...
