Sandhill Crane Feeding Colt - Happy Mothers Day!! © Maxis Gamez, All Rights Reserved
Canon 1D MKIV, Canon 800mm L @ f/8, 1/650 sec, ISO 640 in Manual mode.

Time after time fill flash saves the day. These images were created during the Florida's Birding & Photo Fest at the Alligator Farm. As you can clearly see, the right image (no flash) doesn't have any details under the tail not to mention the upper body looks lifeless and dull.

Having my Canon 600EX-RT flash with Better Beamer set to a value of -3, was sufficient to bring a lot of details in the feathers as well as under the tail. I was happy to see many participants using their flash during this cloudy and misty day.

Cloudy days and fill flash are a great recipe to create images full of details when the sun is not out!

Give it a try!

Thanks!

Despite the challenging weather we faced for 3 days, The Florida's Birding & Photo Fest was a success. it seems that on every single field workshop I had the perfect window with no rain. But that didn't stop many from showing up and enjoy what the festival has to offer.

Overall, I had a great time teaching everything I know. It's nice to watch everyone improve right there in the spot by simply following few tips and techniques.

I personally would like to thank EVERYONE for participating, festival organizers and Kathryn for the images above. You make the festival possible, therefore I'm very grateful.

Until next time...

Thanks!

As much as I love festivals and events, there is a lot of planning behind the curtains. Above you can get an idea how much equipment is required. Make no mistake, it's heavy, bulky and not easy to carry around but the reward is priceless!

I look forward to another successful season!

Thanks!

Canon 1D MKIV, Canon 800mm L @ f/8, 1.4x III tele-converter, 1/250 sec, ISO 1250

April's newsletter I showed how I like to hold my long lens using a tripod and the technique I use. Having a strong long lens holding technique is critical to create sharp images even at slow shutter speeds. From time to time I create a 100% crop images and make sure my technique continues to deliver. Not to mention I keep a close eye to the sharpness of the lenses in case it needs calibration or maintenance.

The Canon 1D MKIV attached to the Canon 800mm L and 1.4x III tele-converter creates an incredible amount of details as you can see above. I can count each feather!

Thanks!

Induro Introduces a new line of tripods - Induro Grand Series © Maxis Gamez, All Rights Reserved

On May 1st, 2014 Induro announced a new series of carbon fiber tripods. The Grand Series!

During the Florida's Birding & Photo Fest, the folks over at www.outdoorphotogear.com hooked me up with a pair of the largest tripods. The CT404 & CT505. I will be writing a review about these two tripods in the upcoming weeks and share my thoughts. I currently use the Induro CT414 as my main tripod... Is it worth the upgrade?? Stay tuned!

If you don't want to wait and would like to learn the specs and pricing of these two tripods, here are the links.

Induro CT404 & Induro CT505

Stay tuned for the review!

Thanks!

Hope you can join me!
