Gatorland continues to deliver. During my latest workshop, we encounter several "photographer's friendly" subjects [smile]. We had sunny days and excellent weather and while I don't like sunny days at the Rookery, we kicked some serious butt photographing Cattle Egrets, Herons, Egrets and even Spoonbills during the workshop.

I'll be back in the upcoming weeks for my last workshop at Gatorland for the season. However, I will continue conducting private classes until late June. If you would like to learn about my private classes, please follow this link. http://www.gvisions.org/index-9.html

Breaking News! A Spoonbill Shows Up Close Enough To Photograph At Alafia Banks, Tampa Bay [smile]

First Visit In May

I took few friends of mine (Troy Lim/Mark Runnals) out to Alafia Banks rookery for the first time only to find one photographable Spoonbill (see above). The light was right, the tide was good but no Spoonbills. I will be coming back to the rookery with few more folks very soon, let's hope we get more Spoonbills close enough to photograph.

Second Visit In May

We went back to Alafia for the second time this month. Again no Spoonbills close enough to photograph. However, these two Reddish Egrets babies gave us few minutes of their busy schedule to capture few images. The came out to the open for few minutes. They saved the day!!

Yet another disappointing day at Alafia Banks. In the other hand, there has been reports of 20-30 Spoonbills at Ding Darling in Sanibel, Florida. I really hope they continue to arrive at Ding Darling for everyone to enjoy without paying top dollars to photograph Spoonbills!

I often tell folks how important is to pay close attention to the background. Let's look at the two images on top.

The first image shows a busy background (wave) and some other natural elements distractions noted with black arrows. These distractions can be easily prevent it if you think about it fast enough.

The second images shows a more cleaner habitat with no distractions whatsoever! Remember... it's all about your subject! But how did I do it? Paying close attention to the waves in the background and the water coming up shore, I press the shutter at the right time!

Using Quick Mask to remove the remaining bubbles completes the final image. Which one do you like best?
