Greetings Readers,

First things first. I would like to apologize to you all for the recent delay with my newsletter. I'm a month behind schedule. However, I'm planning to deliver TWO newsletters this month (June/July).

The last 3 months has been very busy for me allowing very little time in front of the computer. So, please accept my apologies!

Let's start with a short recap of my Florida's Coastline & More Workshop back in May. Boy if we had a great time!!! We had interesting and some dramatic weather opening the opportunity to dramatic images. However, soon after, the skies opened up just at the right time to photograph birds as part of the workshop mixture.

I've been working slowly but surely on HDR Photography, developing new editing techniques and using new software that has helped me deliver that "natural" looks I've been looking for sometime now. I'm a big fan of HDR but prefer images with a more "natural" feel to it.

I hope you like them!

I often get asked my fill flash settings and I would like to share with you all some of the things I keep in mind when using flash or fill flash on my images. So, here are few tips!

  • Keep your subject as far away as possible from the background (BG) - This will help keep the contrast between the subject and the BG to a minimum, not to mention it will help isolate your subject more.
  • Get your natural light exposure properly before using a second source of light. In this case a flash unit.
  • Use a battery power pack. This will increase the changes of the flash hitting your subject multiple times.
  • Finally, the settings for the images were: Flash zoom head to 50mm, -3 flash compensation, Flash bracket high enough to eliminate "silver eye".

Let's not forget that these settings were selected specifically for this image and may not work under different conditions. The key is to practice and learn more how your flash unit behaves under different environments.

I hope this helps!!
