Yours Truly - Thank you Marion for sharing this image.

I just finished my Florida Bird Photography Tour and yet again was an amazing experience. I wanted to send an update as quick as possible before I head into another super busy two months. Hope you don't mind two e-mails back-to-back.

We gathered in Sarasota, Florida to enjoy a good dinner courtesy of yours truly and to introduce ourselves. We talked about itinerary changes, weather, gear, clothing, and everything else needed to have a successful tour. Participants were from the United States and Canada.

Our tour started with a fascinating sunrise in the St. Petersburg area. We then drove to a GHO nest near-by which was a fantastic opportunity (see GHO image above). Our afternoon was extremely productive as well. We photographed Reddish Egrets, Long-billed Curlew, Willets, and several other waders and gulls near-by. It was awesome!

Day two was similar but much further south. Shorebirds was our priority which we did pretty well. Participants learned about the importance of perspective, manual exposure, composition, approach, DOF and much more.

The following day was all about Burrowing Owls which we managed just fine during the early morning hours. It's always great to photograph these little guys...

We said goodbye to the coastline the headed inland for nesting birds. Boy if we had a good time. As soon as we left the hotel, we were greeted with rain but after driving few miles north the rain stopped leaving us with a cloudy day which was perfect for fill flash. Participants learned the benefits of using fill flash in cloudy weather, subject isolation, composition, more fill flash <smile>, birds in flight, camera settings and much more.

Overall, the Tour was a total success with happy participants, lots of images (5K+) and a great learning experience. I would like to thank you all for your endurance and for your participation. We kicked butt!!

I'm taking reservations for 2015. Contact me if you are interested. Hope you enjoyed the images!

Until next year!

Thanks!
