A Very, Very Lucky Lady - Florida Panther Sighting...!

Florida Panther & Two Cubs - Florida - Heather Green, All Rights Reserved
Florida Panther & Two Cubs - Florida - Heather Green, All Rights Reserved

Heather Green, a dedicated nature lover and photographer was very lucky to witness a female Florida Panther and Two cubs while exploring Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve few weeks ago. As soon as I saw her Facebook post as she was driving the preserve, I was anxious to see the images and asked her to share an image or two with me for this newsletter.

As you probably know, the Florida Panther are in the endanger list and every sight is very important and exciting. Heather wrote all about the encounter directly on her blog. I highly suggest reading her story. I'm very happy to see them around and I truly hope they make a comeback!!

After our first day photographing the White Pelicans, I decided to invite workshop participants (FREE) to photograph Great Blue Herons nesting, Anhinga's and even Bald Eagles the following day. Our second day stared overcast which created a nice and productive fill flash session for everyone. We had a very cooperative Great Blue Heron which was the perfect subject to practice fill flash. Workshop participants followed my instructions closely including camera and flash settings for Canon and Nikon systems. Everyone got some pretty kick butt heads shots using different backgrounds. See bellow!

I recently had an interesting conversation with a photographer from New Jersey. He claimed that the AF of the 5D MKII sucked and that he would rather continue using his MKII body.

The conversation got heated really quickly as I suggested that perhaps it was his panning technique or camera settings... So... I left it alone and moved on.

Few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to photograph race cars courtesy of a racer friend of mine whom invited me to his race. I purposely used my 5D MKII to prove him wrong... Using a solid panning technique made it all possible and while the 5D MKII handles 3 1/2 frames per second, you can still achieved good results. These images were created using ALL 9 focusing points and AI Servo. Now, I only wish the 5D MKII was as fast as my 7D.

well, I can only say that the camera delivered to my expectations. :)
